Job Description:
Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine is recruiting for ambr250 Reduced Scale Model Development Co-Op for Spring 2026, located in Malvern, PA.
Research & Development Co-Op Overview:
Johnson & Johnson R&D focuses on the development of advanced materials and manufacturing processes, risk management, and analytical testing throughout the development lifecycle and across all sectors, including Pharmaceutical and Medical Device. We operate in a dynamic, cross-functional, and technologically innovative environment, and are dedicated to fostering engineering and scientific talent.
Life as an R&D Co-Op:
The R&D Co-Op program offers students practical, hands-on experience, along with coaching, mentoring, and networking opportunities. Participants will have the chance to connect with peers from diverse educational backgrounds across the country. Each Co-Op will be assigned to a specific function and project for the duration of a six-month term, typically from January 2026 to June 2026.
Job Description & Key Responsibilities:
The API Proteins organization within Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine is seeking a highly motivated candidate with training in Chemical or Biological Engineering and Advanced Data Analytics. The successful candidate will collaborate with the End-to-End Upstream Process Development and Automation teams, contributing to the development of bioreactor Reduced Scale Models (RSM). Specifically, the candidate will leverage their knowledge of scientific and engineering principles to:
• Collect and collate diverse experimental data sets across several bioreactor scales (e.g., 250mL, 5L, 500L, 2kL)
• Perform data transformation (e.g., via means of mass balance and kinetic modeling)
• Perform advanced data analytics (e.g., usage of Buckingham Pi theorem, Statistical Design of Experiments, Multivariate Data Analysis and time-series analysis)
• Apply an iterative and adaptive learning approach for experimental design and execution (e.g., model-based or model discriminate Design of Experiments)
Qualifications
Education:
• Chemical Engineering, Biological Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, and related majors
• Candidates must be actively enrolled in an accredited university for the duration of a co-op assignment pursuing a Master’s or PhD degree
• Minimum GPA of 3.0
• Completion of Undergraduate degree at an accredited university
Experience and Skills:
Required:
• Coursework and/or working knowledge of cell culture processes
• Hands-on experience in process modeling and simulation
• Strong analytical and quantitative skills
• Basic laboratory skills and experience in research, experimental design & execution, and data analysis
• Candidate must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. and must not require sponsorship for employment visa status now or in the future (e.g., FI, H1-B status)
Preferred:
• Hands-on experience in cell culture processes
• Hands-on experience with scale up/down methodologies
